Our van fee includes vehicle and courier insurance, tyres, services, and more. However, it does not include vehicle damage – much like any other rental company.

This is provided to drivers at a rate of £210 per week (£35 per six-day work week).

The insurance excess is  £1000, and we offer a customised payment plan to ensure the driver can pay this off over a set period. The excess could be higher if you are under 25, over 65, or have 6 points on your licence.

You are responsible for doing van compliance checks and ensuring it is in a road-worthy condition. For example, you are responsible for checking the level of liquids such as oil, AdBlue and screenwash.

You must immediately notify your onsite manager about any van issues or damages.

Our Fleet department and your onsite manager will assist you if you have van problems.

This is only relevant for non-UK Passport holders or non-UK citizens. It allows a contractor or employer to see that you can legally work in the UK.

If you are an EU resident (or Non-UK), you will need a code to prove your right to work – it is a legal requirement.

You can apply for a share code online by following the below link. The share code it, however is only valid for 90 days.

Note: You can’t prove your right to work with a share code you got for a different reason. If you attained the code for the right to rent, we would need a new one for the right to work.

If you are a van owner, there are specific criteria we need you to meet:

The vehicle must have the following:

• A minimum of five cubic meters of loading space.
• Meet both mechanical and bodywork standards.

As an owner-driver, your insurances need to include the following:

• Hire or reward for carrying not own goods
• Goods in transit up to the value of £25,000.
• Public and Personal liability insurance up to the value of £5,000,000.

The DVLA check code allows access to information about a motorist's driving license. Usually, this is used when applying for a driving or contractor-related job and sometimes when renting a vehicle. It is standard practice to have this code on hand.

You can access a DVLA check code by visiting the Government website and following the step-by-step guide.

You will need:

• The postcode on your driving licence
• The driving licence number
• The National Insurance number

The code is only valid for 21 days. 

Payments are made weekly in arrears. This means that the payment is a week behind. The payment scale varies based on the depot and area you work. This will fluctuate between £135 to £180. The Onsite Manager will be able to tell you the latest rate.

Our finance team works with Wise to make all payments. Generally, the onsite manager is the first to assist a driver with a query. However, the finance team can be contacted if further assistance is needed. A link to their details is provided in the Intranet, which all our drivers can access.

We provide you with a fuel card and then pay back the driver for business miles travelled. This includes the topping up of AdBlue, screenwash and so on.

The fuel price varies as our providers give us discounts. Our clients review fuel payment prices to ensure our drivers get the best deals. Our internal Intranet system is updated to ensure our drivers are always in the know.  

This is a full-time commitment. While the App pre-calculates the delivery routes. This, however, is flexible and based on daily parcel volume. The driver's start time depends on the depot; however, it is usually about 10 am.

While this is understandably a common question, the number of parcels depends on the area of delivery. In other words, it depends on your city and town. However, the general rule is that you will get fewer parcels to deliver the longer your travel distance.

Once your Background clearance is approved, we will book your delivery training. You will be paid £102.5 per day of classroom and route training. After this, you will be bumped up to full pay.  

The classroom training typically lasts 8 hours daily, over two days, and is provided at the depot. In addition, there are some instances where remote training is provided to drivers.

Once the classroom training is complete, the driver is sent on the road with an experienced driver to get practical experience.

Do not worry; we will help you! Our experienced drivers take newbies out on the road to learn how the delivery systems work.

After your initial training, your first day on the road is called a nursery route. This is a reduced route and ensures you are not overrun on your first days of delivering yourself.

You will be given 75% of the parcel volume during your first four days to find your feet. After four days, this will be increased to 85% of the parcel volume.

All these nursery routes are paid as full payments.

Self-employed drivers must register with the tax office, called HRMC, for a Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR). This should be done as soon as possible.

All driver payments are made through an accountancy firm called Wise. In other words, we need the driver to log into the Pegasus Couriers Wise App to receive payment.

You must sign all necessary documents on Wise. We have an online video and App to assist you.

If you do not want to do your taxes, Wise offers accountancy products to assist drivers with  VAT registration. However, you are not obliged to use wise products.

All drivers must pass a background check. This is standard for most delivery companies. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any prior disclosures. Our team will submit the check on your behalf to speed up the process. The cost is £49  and is deducted from your first payment.

Due to Health and Safety Regulations, all drivers must wear steel toe cap shoes and a high vis vest in the depot. A Pegasus Couriers branded reflective vest can be provided. We will also supply you with a keychain that must be attached to you at all times when away from the vehicle.
